Bill Putnam’s photography has concentrated on the mental, physical and political cost of war through documentary photography, portraiture and video. In June 2013, he wrapped up a 16-month tour in Afghanistan covering the International Security Assistance Force-led hand over of responsibilities to the Afghan National Security Forces in the county’s volatile Helmand Province.

Putnam’s work has been published in The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, Newsweek, Army Times, The New Republic, NPR.org, among other media outlets. He is part of the Conflict Zone exhibition, a collection of images from the front lines of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan captured by leading combat photographers and journalists.
