Despite his nickname, Petiot was actually a well respected doctor during his time. He was so well like that he was even voted Mayor of his French town. However, his kleptomania, schemes and use of murder to solve problems sent him to Paris after he was asked to step down from his political position. It would be in the city of lights that Marcel would gain his famous name Dr. Satan. Petiot developed a scam in which he promised to help smuggle an estimated 60 people out of the Nazi occupied city, only to systemically steal their money, and murder them.
