Clarification from shiur tonight. The gemara’s answer that Rebbi Yehuda agrees by “malei egrof” – we will go with Rashi’s pshat that as it means that it is more than a tefach space between ground and roof above it and tefach in area – it is considered an ohel to stop tumah from going up (and will bring tumah to other things underneath it) even though it was not made for express purpose of being “covering” for that which is underneath.
