1. Open Your Mind to Other Ways of Thinking
One of the core beliefs behind Gary’s book is that to be successful in life, you need to open your mind to new ways of thinking and living.
Don’t view the world as all black and white, based solely off of the experiences you had in one small part of the world. Travel, meet new people, explore new cultures and beliefs, be willing to challenge your most cherished ideas and you will become a better man because of it.
2. Surround Yourself With People Who Can Help You Make Better Decisions
Like nearly every individual that Andrew has ever interviewed, Gary spoke highly of the importance of having mentors and high achievers in your inner circle.
If you want to be successful in business and in life, then you must surround yourself with people who can call you out when you aren’t living up to your potential, people who can help you discover previously unknown solutions, and people who will help lift you up to higher levels.
3. When You Experience Difficulties Face them Head On
One of the lessons that Gary learned from his time in the investment world is that you must face challenges head on. When dealing with clients, Gary had to keep them apprised of the state of their investments, and this meant telling them when things were going downhill.
The sooner you face a problem, the sooner you can solve it. Be willing to do the difficult thing and stare down whatever problem you have in your life until it is eradicated.
