Gentiles who did not seek God have received righteousness unlike the Jews because the Jews sought God by works of the law and not by faith in Christ. While their legalistic efforts may be zealous, they missed that Jesus is the culmination of that law. God has made His revelation in Christ accessible. Man must simply respond by believing and professing the Gospel. Since belief/profession is the path to salvation, this is open to anyone who asks God for it. If we are to ask, then we must know that the Gospel exists which God has made to be heard by the preachers He has sent, yet the Gospel proclamation of these preachers, though definitely heard, has gone unheeded by Israel. Because of God’s prior revelation to Israel, they understood that God would enter into relationship with other peoples if they did not obey. The issue does not stem from God’s unfaithfulness to Israel, but rather their blatant unfaithfulness to Him.
