Police dispatchers for the city of Dover, Delaware found themselves at the center of an international rescue effort last month when they received a call from an Albanian man who thought he was calling emergency personnel in Dover, England.

It happened on Aug. 27, when the man learned that his brother's boat was sinking in the English Channel. Officials say the man did an internet search for “Dover Police Department” and wound up calling Delaware instead of England.

Within a little more than 15 minutes, emergency personnel in Delaware were able to contact the appropriate agencies and confirm that rescuers were on their way to the vessel. Everyone on board was safely returned to the Port of Dover, England.
