Have you ever wanted to logout of Instagram for a day, maybe the weekend, but held off because you were afraid you were going to miss out on something? Are there clothes hanging in your closet or beauty products in your bathroom, or decor in your house that you bought (maybe influenced by an Instagram ad or someone sharing about it on Facebook) that you thought was going to solve all your problems . . . only for you to still feel empty and restless? Do you find that your creativity, clarity of mission, and just your ability to focus on something has tanked - and that has correlated to the time you spend in front of a screen? In today’s episode of the Letters to Women Podcast, I’m sitting down with Jessamyn Anderson Frain. For the first three months of 2021, Jessamyn didn’t buy anything that wasn’t essential. So yes, toothpaste, but no, all the cute stuff we love but really don’t need in the Target dollar section. She also took an intentional step away from social media. You’re going to want to listen in to what she learned about herself during that season and if she’s gotten back on social media after that time away. If you’re ready for a break and you’re hungry for contentment, sister, this letter is for you. Topics we talked about in this episode: The three month contentment challenge that Jessamyn took part in at the beginning of 2021 (and whether she’d ever do it again or not!) What Jessamyn learned about herself when she took a break from Instagram How to overcome FOMO when you log off social media Setting up boundaries for yourself so you actually take a break If taking a break from social media can boost your creativity and clarity Entering into the holiday season with a spirit of contentment and gratitude Jessamyn’s tips for making lifestyle changes so you can interact with social media in a life-giving way Resources you should check out after listening to this episode: Get on the waitlist for December subscription boxes with The Little Catholic Box (and get a free Marian tumbler as a Letters to Women listener!) Find Jessamyn’s music online Follow Jessamyn on Instagram Power sheets from the company Cultivate What Matters Check out this podcast episode from Nancy Ray that inspired Jessamyn’s contentment challenge Read through Digital Minimalism to help you create boundaries around taking a break from social media Theology of the Body Institute Pick up a copy of the new Letters to Women book today!
