There seems to be a sudden trend in the industry where moviemakers rejig timeless romantic classics into newer versions. While several remakes failed to make an impression, there are some movies that have mastered the formula of presenting old wine in a new bottle with elan. A 2014 American rom-com is a remake of a 1996 Japanese film of the same name. It stars Richard Gere as John Clark, Jennifer Lopez as Paulina, and Susan Sarandon as Beverly in lead roles. The movie was not as successful globally as its Japanese counterpart but did well in the home country, winning many awards.

Further, Lady Gaga’s original composition for the movie, titled Shallow, won her an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Though the earlier movies highlight the story of love between two pen pals, You’ve Got Mail marked the dawn of the internet age by changing the mode of communication from letters to emails.

With stellar performances by the star cast, this movie ranks high in the list of all-time great remakes in movie history.
