Throughout the history of the Ottoman Empire many influential women have lobbied for power and influence over the sultans but few did it better than Hurrem Sultan. Originally born somewhere in Poland and captured into slavery Hurrem worked her way up to becoming the beloved wife of the empire’s most powerful Sultan.
