- Two Big Stories (we each pick our biggest story of the week and talk about it)
- Andrew - The FCCs new internet regulations contain a “future conduct standard” that is concerning some people (Techhive)
- This standard prohibits “on a case-by-case basis, practices that unreasonably interfere with or unreasonably disadvantage the ability of consumers to reach Internet content ... or of edge providers to access consumers using the Internet,”
- This particular rule has drawn criticism from all sides including ISPs, industry lobbyists and even the EFF
- The EFF’s concern is that the kind of case-by-case regulation outlined in the rules: “may lead to years of expensive litigation to determine the meaning of ‘harm’ (for those who can afford to engage in it),” the EFF wrote in a February letter to the FCC. “What is worse, it could be abused by a future commission to target legitimate practices that offer significant benefits to the public but could also be construed to cause some harm to a specific provider or consumer.”
- The article does throw in a quick nod to the other side
- "Other net neutrality supporters defended the future conduct clause. The standard is “simply a restatement” of a traffic nondiscrimination standard found in common carrier regulations that now cover broadband service, said Matt Wood, policy director at digital rights group Free Press."
- This is a tough one but I think I land on the side of those opposed to the future conduct standards. The problem with this kind of regulation isn’t the group of people who put the regulation in place, it’s the ones that come after that don’t necessarily share an ideology with the first group.
- I think these rules would have been better served by a narrower definition of net neutrality as a temporary measure until Congress can get an internet bill passed that would encourage competition among ISPs. But who am I kidding, that’s never going to happen
- Jonathan - Is Google the all-powerful force some think?
- Not sure what to make of this article but it is worth a read…some very interesting stuff
- I have always wondered how Google handles articles, sites it doesn’t like. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if they manipulated how they are found through searches

- NBA stretch
- Can we seriously fix the NBA playoffs already?
- Take a look at the League standings and tell me the top 16 aren’t a better playoffs than the top 8 from each conference?
- Top 16 gives you Phoenix and New Orleans in, Miami and Boston out and Milwaukee as the last team in.

- Sling TV adds some new Channels
- History added four new channels last week, A&E, History, H2, and Lifetime are all now a part of the core package
- I’m particularly excited about H2 because that’s where all the History shows moved when History channel started showing unscripted shows all the time
- I like seeing them add new stuff, but I’d really like them to improve the stability of the service. It works, but not great
- New Apple TV stuff this summer?
