Talking to the amazing J C Sum who has carved out a fantastic career as Asia’s international illusionist. Wow! J C Sum has some great thoughts and advice for the long term, professional entertainer! Lots of fascinating insights into positioning yourself in the market, and maintaining/increasing your income decade after decade! You can find J C Sum online at: http://www.jcsum.com and check out his new site all about how creative people can discover new sources of income: http://BackstageBusinessAcademy.com And my website is http://www.thebigbenshow.com (I love it when people contact me, so if you’d like to be interviewed or just want to say hello, you can reach me at ben@thebigbenshow.com) THIS WEEK MY FAVOURITE HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE: 00:18:30 Positioning yourself in the market. “Big Money Show” theory. (Less shows, more money!) Personally I am very interested in the following issue: Namely the issue of doing corporate shows with a (sometimes dull) corporate message vs the satisfaction of doing your own show with purely artistic goals. Interestingly J C Sum migrated upmarket doing his own shows and mega illusions for tv, cruise ships and the international market, but another direction is of course to move into the birthday party market, where again you can enjoy full creative freedom, and a new audience is born every year, so longevity of career is likely. So many things to talk about, but other highlights: 00:48:00 Getting work on cruise ships 00:50:00 Push vs Pull marketing. 00:55:00 Positioning yourself in a niche that you can own, and that has market value 01:04:00 Other sources of income! Products and investments And how to sell these niche products such as books, information and equipment NAMES AND RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: Check em all out. Google and youtube them!!! You will learn sooooo much Books on Market Positioning by Jack Trout and Al Ries have been a huge influence on J C. Also J C Sum’s new book: “The Showbiz Master Plan” available from http://BackstageBusinessAcademy.com Also check out http://magickabukidrop.com For more Podcasts and Videos visit http://thebigbenshow.com or Subscribe to my podcasts at: http://bigbenshow.podomatic.com/ or https://itunes.apple.com/hk/podcast/meet-entertainers-on-big-ben/id947768911
