Thomas Highflyer was an African slave boy, rescued in 1866 by the crew of the British Navy's anti-slavery ship, the Highflyer. Nothing is known of his early life but Thomas was brought to Brighton where he lived and died, age just 12, in 1870. In early 2018, thanks to the work of Brighton Black History Group and their supporters, Thomas's neglected grave was removed from a remote part of Brighton cemetery for restoration. Our story starts there..... You can read more about Thomas's life and what's known so far here: http://www.black-history.org.uk/projects/tom-highflyer/
