Paul wrote a letter to a churh in Philippi – they had sent him some money because he was in great need and also to support the Church in Jerusalem.

Why?

Paul was in Prison.

Out of that prison situation, Paul tells the Philippian Church – “I learned the secret of being content!”

What is the secret?

The secret is in understanding who empowers us – who gives us strength.

Hint: it’s not us.

Who Empowers?

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.

I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:12-13

Do you live this way?

This verse really challenges me because I don’t think I always live in a way that looks to Christ Jesus to enable me with the strength I need for every situation.

I tend to want to do things in my strength and often, if I’m honest with myself, God is an after thought.

I know this isn’t God’s best for me which is why I wanted to memorize this Bible verse. I think I need to remember this basic truth in scripture: It’s through Him that I receive my strength.
