This week Dr. J and Dr. Bunny discuss the miracle of birth and specifically Caesarean Sections. Dr. J has delivered babies for over 35 years. He admits he was nervous the first time – he was 19 years old! The baby was slippery but Dr. J didn’t drop him!
Now, as Dr Bunny comments, he lights up after every birth. “A jolt of a miracle!”
C-sections, Dr. J says, are only done out of medical necessity. This could mean that the uterus is too small for the baby. Medical necessity could also mean that the mother and/or the baby is in danger. after birth, a mom needs at least 24 hours recovery and spends 3-4 days in the hospital.
Times have changed: Thirty-three years ago (the age of Dr. Bunny’s grandson), moms spent a week in the hospital after a c-section. Fifty-five years ago (Dr. J’s age), moms recovered in the hospital for 2 weeks!
