***This Episode Contains Some Spoilers*** We can’t help ourselves. We tried really hard to stay spoiler free, yet despite intentions, we go into spoilers for Argo. But we make up for it with an overload of piping hot takes that will set fire to your movie watching souls. 2012 Year in Review - 4:03 Philip Seymour Hoffman in The Master - 8:28 Alan Arkin in Argo - 26:22 Tommy Lee Jones in Lincoln - 42:20 Robert DeNiro in Silver Linings Playbook - Coming Soon in Part 2! Christoph Waltz in Django Unchained - Coming Soon in Part 2! Re-Rank / AKA Perfecting Perfection - Coming Soon in Part 2! In our retrospective of the 2012 Best Supporting Actor race, the Mikes break down the category with Oscar theories galore. Part 1 will cover a year, both of us schlubs need to review because we weren’t aware of much in the news back then. Ignorance was bliss. You also don’t want to miss our takes on how one-liners and scene stealers can cinch up a nomination for our first three nominees in the category. During Philip Seymour Hoffman’s bio/filmography, we chronicle the eclectic career of the character actor turned oscar winner, and we identify the greatest going to sleep movie of all time. As we delve into the PSH performance in PTA’s The Master, we discuss acronyms (just kidding, we discuss) cult leaders, naked parties, and why our history teachers would shake their heads in shame if they ever heard us now. Our bio/filmography of Alan Arkin maps out one of the stranger career paths ever traveled to Hollywood stardom. Then in our chat about the Ben Beardfleck film, Argo, Also Mike takes a stab at the plot summary and proves why it’s one of the better directorial efforts in recent memory. Then we debate who’s more deserving of a nomination, Bryan Cranston or Alan Arkin, and we quote Chris Farley sketches on SNL cuz they remind us of all the air quotes Also Mike does that nobody can see (because it’s a podcast you see. Tip your waitresses. I’ll be here all week). The Tommy Lee Jones bio/filmography shows how a Texan football star becomes a Broadway thespian. It may or may not involve his college roommate, Al Gore. We somewhat redeem ourselves in that hypothetical reunion with our former history teachers as we gush over the historic historical historyness of Lincoln. As always, the success or failure of MMO goes as you do; thus we beg of you to PLEASE follow, review, and subscribe to the Mike Mike & Oscar Podcast and our social media pages, listed below. We really appreciate all your help to spread the word about our show. Also, feel free to contact us on social media, and we’ll try to read some of your feedback on the air. Stay tuned for part 2 of our 2012 Best Supporting Actor Retrospective where we cover Robert DeNiro and his role in Silver Linings Playbook, and we finish the 5 nominees with a look at the winner Christoph Waltz in Django Unchained. Both segments will dive deep into these films, and we’ll cap it all off with several re-ranks of the year’s best and our favorites.
