Episode 009: You Are the Master

What If the Only Thing Keeping You From the Level of Success You Want…Is You?

Quote of the Episode:Mindset Reset Podcast with Ilena Banks Episode 9 Erin Cummings You Control Your Success

“At the end of the day, you are solely responsible for your success and your failure. And the sooner you realize that, you accept that, and integrate that into your work ethic, you will start being successful. As long as you blame others for the reason you aren’t where you want to be, you will always be a failure.”

Erin Cummings

So many people are trapped by something that happened to them in life. They were bullied in 4th grade. They went through a bad divorce, or had a business crumble at their feet. Sadly, lots of folks never recover.

That doesn’t have to be you.

If you’ve ever had something go wrong (and we all have), you have two choices about what to do next:

  1. You can use what happened as an excuse for not getting what you want out of life, or,
  2. You can “pick yourself up, dust yourself off,” and get on with the work of making things better.

Les Brown is a great example of what can be achieved if you refuse to let the shadows of a bad past stop you. He and his twin brother were born on the floor of an abandoned building in Florida. They were later adopted, but Les was labeled “educable, mentally retarded” by the education system. Talk about a rough start!

Despite all that, today, Les Brown is one of the giants of success and motivational speaking. He could have chosen to accept where he came from, and what was said about him by others. Instead, he took responsibility and made a better choice.

Today, choose to live as though whatever happened to you never did. Take the power out of your past, and embrace the person you were meant to be. Make decisions that lead toward your goals. Be the Master of your own life.

In a year, you’ll probably be so far ahead that you barely recognize yourself.

Your past does not determine your possibilities. You do.

Bonus Quote:

“Focused, hard work is the real key to success. Keep your eyes on the goal, and just keep taking the next step towards completing it. If you aren’t sure which way to do something, do it both ways and see which works better.”

John Carmack

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Think Bruce Leroy. Who’s the Master, honey? You are.
  • Your past does not determine your possibility. Let go of that old notion.
  • Every decision you make is crafting your path toward success or failure. Choose wisely.
