Brandon complains about the characters. We discover he can’t keep the names Ross and Chandler straight. Joey and Pheebs seem like Urkel from Family Matters to him. He doesn’t like audience laughter in sitcoms, especially if is seems disingenuous. Perhaps he just doesn’t like being told when to laugh. He also hates the song because it gets stuck in his head. He’s concerned that he’s insulting his friends and loved ones by essentially calling their laughter stupid, but he respects them, which is why he’s doing the podcast.

Jozi likes Friends because of the nostalgia. The laughs are comfortable to her. Also, she can relate to each of the characters at times. And she likes it because it does what it set out to do: make people laugh.

A rudimentary scoring system that heavily favors Brandon is set up. Brandon starts the podcast with a point for each episode of Friends, 236. For each recap where he is impressed with an episode enough to call it enjoyable (to him, of course) he loses a point and Jozi gains one.

Jozi recaps the pilot and Brandon interrupts her. The first interruption comes quick, and it’s about the hideous clothing styles of the characters. Chandler drinks pond water from a non-existent pond. The pilot is the only episode that spends the entirety of the credits in the pond - it gets cut for show pulls starting next week.

We start at Central Perk, or the CP. We always do. Chandler has weird dreams and the other characters are really just caricatures of themselves the whole episode.

Jozi points out that Brandon may be too literal to enjoy this show properly. Nothing really makes sense.

Everyone knows that Rachel and Ross will end up together as soon as they see her in the wedding dress, but that probably won’t be for at least 4 or 5 seasons…. or, um, episodes. (Foreshadow, foreshadow, foreshadow.)

Joey and Pheebs might should work on the streets, and we talk about ice cream and words used for toppings. It’s a Jimmie Thing.

We talk about spit three total times this episode, and it turns out Brandon may be a closet germaphobe. He’s picky about which closet he’s in though.

There’s talk of employment, and the lack of experience seeking it, and it really leads Jozi to sneak in and steal a point from Brandon. Sealing the deal was the bad coffee joke and Pheebs singing sentences.

SCORING

Jozi takes an early leap in the standings, closing the gap.

Brandon - 235 Jozi - 1
