US bond and equity markets were CLOSED overnight in observance of the Presidents Day holiday. In US corporate earnings, Walmart Inc reports third quarter earnings before the opening bell tonight AEDT. European markets - Germany's DAX dipped -0.01%, with automotive stocks (Volkswagen AG down -0.95%, Daimler AG --0.41%) capping gains after the US Commerce Department on Sunday (17 February) reportedly sent a national security report to President Trump offering recommendations over new tariffs on imported autos and auto parts. European Commission spokesman Margaritis Schina reportedly said at a press conference on Monday (18 February) that the European Union (EU) will respond quickly to any US tariffs on car imports from the region. Wirecard AG jumped +15.2% after financial watchdog BaFin issued a ban against establishing or increasing short positions in the payment services provider. France's edged CAC +0.30% higher, while Italy’s FTSE MIB climbed 0.6%. In economic data, the German ZEW economic sentiment survey is released tonight AED along with eurozone current account and construction output data.
