Oleksandra Drik (@DrikOleksandra/Twitter) talked with us about the Russian filtration camps that have been in the occupied territories of Ukraine for eight years. With the full scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has scaled these camps to other temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. She said Ukrainians illegally detained by the occupation authorities experienced torture, beatings, electrocution, sexual harassment, and humiliation. They were forced to confess to being involved in the Armed Forces, they tried to take their children for “re-education,” which are illegal detention and deprivation of liberty of civilians. She said that those who survived the filtering say that those who did not pass the filtering were killed. “And as recently published satellite images show, there are mass graves near some of the filtration camps, which means that some may have been killed or tortured to death." She talked about her report to the meeting of the UN Security Council, where she emphasized that Russia must be punished in order to stop the atrocities of its military.
