Welcoming my next guest, Sam from Dirty Alchemy to the MNBP! Sam is special. She has this soul-shining, beautiful intelligence that pervades from her with each word she speaks. In addition to co-founding Living Earth Systems in Southern California, she is a mentor to women who want to be in alignment with their values. By supporting others in lightening their load and being true to themselves, Sam is a fountain of information and knows her message and values all too well.

She is a fellow journaler who has full-circled past journals (uhh awesome!) and has a deep connection to her place and space on the Earth. Whether she was talking about her work with either Living Earth Systems or Dirty Alchemy, how to individually find habits and practices to incorporate into your daily life that support both you and the Earth, or regenerative agriculture, this episode contains much food for thought. It was wonderful to bring a guest to the MNBP to which I was not previously familiar with their specific line of work. Thank you for enlightening me, Sam :)

This episode is good for anyone interested in living sustainably, learning about regenerative agriculture, and wanting to live more in alignment with their values.

SHOW MEMO

Who: Sam

Where: Central Michigan while visiting family

When: 27 June 2017

What we explore together:

  • How a student group who was trying to get local food into college cafeterias and her minor in Environmental Studies fed her interest in sustainability and ultimately led her to live a sustainable lifestyle.
  • The work she does with Dirty Alchemy specifically working with women who want to align their energy with their values
  • The inspiration behind the name "Dirty Alchemy"
  • Being aware of letting go of the things that are not valuable to you so that you can make consistent action that matters and actually stick with it instead of jumping full force into something and getting lost in it.
  • Simple and practical places to start when wanting to align your life, begin to "follow your enthusiasm" practices that can help you
  • What regenerative agriculture is and why it is important
  • Tips on what to do if you want to learn more about regenerative agriculture

How Sam explores
The world:
Through food.
Breathe and food are two of the most basic ways that we commute with our external environment.

Powerful breath work: Kundalini yoga
Her mind:
Journaling and Meditation -
the process of all of the things we are bringing into ourselves
Using journaling as a tool to help clarify thoughts

She encourages the practice of free writing every morning - writing for a set amount of pages and just writing whatever comes out of your mind and your head. It is similar to a mind bath!

Her body:

Walking.

She consistently does strength training.
And she loves to cook!
Her spirit:
"Living life!"
"We are spiritual beings living a human experience."

In three words, Sam is:
Connected. Powerful. M-E.

The one activity, habit, behavior that makes Sam feel in her Natural Beet is
"Being intentional with the time before and after sleep is really important for me."
Slowly down and connecting with myself before sleeping.
That feels really important to me.

Then Sam asked me what leaves me feeling in my Natural Beet:
By taking three to five really deep breathes and pointing out what I see and staying in the moment - tethered in the present.

Making a conscious effort to stay here and now.
