Hello and welcome to today’s episode of the Naked Health Warriors podcast. Today we have someone who is absolutely brilliant and I’m so super excited to have her on. She is Dr. Martha Nessler. Dr. Martha is absolutely phenomenal. She is an expert in Personal Success Strategies. She is all about human success – so your success! the listener, the person listening right now. She’s a speaker, a doctor of chiropractic from the United States of America. She works directly with lifestyle entrepreneurs who want to live a life of their dreams – so you, achieving your dreams. She wants to help you. She’s a master of essential oils. She’s an absolute wizard when it comes to figuring out how to help you manage your stress and a whole heap of other things. Mainly, her purpose she feels is to help people step into health, happiness and healing.

1:22

Harriet: Dr. Martha, I’d love to hear a little bit more about you so our listeners can get to know who you are and what you’re all about.

Dr. Martha: Awesome! I can’t wait to share it with you.

Harriet: Cool! I’d love for you to introduce yourself a little bit more to the listeners. Tell them a little bit about yourself, about you and your business.

1:40

Dr. Martha: Well, it all started as a chiropractor in the United States. I fell in love with a chiropractor from New Zealand and relocated in. I went through a really interesting time in my life where I kind of lacked everything I needed to be true which also meant leaving my career as a chiropractor and a professional speaker in chiropractic. I moved to New Zealand and I kind of went through this stage of, I call it disempowerment stage, where everything that I was kind of almost scooped one away and relocated in New Zealand and started this new life. As I began to do that I began to see that I could actually create the life of my dreams and that’s what I call lifestyle entrepreneur, someone who actually begins to build a lifestyle doing what they love. And I found that when I moved to New Zealand, in this “disempowering state” that I needed to really begin to understand empowerment and how we as individuals begin to empower ourselves to live out the life of our dreams.

2:35

Dr. Martha: And what I’ve done is I’ve merged the two, so now what I do is I’ve created an amazing life with an amazing man where we actually go around and we travel across 7 countries empowering individuals to make better decisions and to have the tools necessary to actually empower themselves to health, happiness and healing. And then on a more professional level, I work with other lifestyle entrepreneurs to do the exact same thing to live out a life of their dreams doing what they love and helping other people.

3:03

Harriet : That’s absolutely brilliant! I love what you’re doing and it’s such a powerful message that you have. So many people know how to empower people, but when it comes to themselves they don’t have the specific strategy, the specific understanding of how they need to be ignited, for a better word.

3:20

Harriet: I’d love for you to share a little bit about your upbringing. What’s been influencing you from a young age, positive and negative, from how you’ve been created into this brilliant person who’s able to have the want to go out there and help people?

03:36

Dr. Martha : It’s funny because I think our life is an accumulation of stepping stones and stopping points. And the interesting thing is I think that sometimes we forget that some of the most jagged stepping points, if you think of yourself as climbing up this cell, you think of this harder spot, the tough spots to get from Point A to Point B, those are actually the ones that really mold us and frame us the most. So for me, losing my mom at the age of two gave me this deep desire. My mom died of cancer within 4 months and I was two years old, my brother was six months old when she got diagnosed. And for me to know that this woman didn’t fully live out her life – and we didn’t really get to live our life with her, she was kind of robbed of a full life of health, happiness and healing. Losing her life at 29 she didn’t get to really, really live, kind of put this burning desire inside of me to help others fully live out their lives.

04:23

Dr. Martha: That’s my deep, deep why, that’s the why that makes me cry”. Just lots of different experiences with family, with my dad, and marrying, just living my life and “different levels of disempowerment”, finding ways to empower myself and get through them, have kind of brought me here today to empower other people. Let go of their anchors. Anchors hold us back, get rid of our anchors and start living our life and shining.

05:01

Harriet: Absolutely! I love that.

Harriet: One thing that I really resonate is the levels of disempowerment. There’s little hurdles that we can get over. As human beings we are able to move past them and move on to better things. But then there’s these levels of disempowerment whereby in schools, universities and colleges we aren’t literally taught exactly how to get over those hurdles. You know, the real jaggedy steps, the things that are in our lives. That just happens to people everyday. If we’re not dealt with the hand and dealt with the skills to get over them it makes things so hard.

Harriet: So I love the way that you explain that.

5:42

Harriet: What was your lowest point of disempowerment that you used to really boost yourself up?

Dr. Martha: I’ll be honest with you. Immigrating. That was probably the lowest step for me because I think that when I was in my birth country in the United States I was surrounded by people that loved me, I was surrounded by friends. You know the accumulation of life over 32 years was constantly in my energy field around me.

Dr. Martha: Moving to New Zealand, I was kind of like, going with your podcast, stripped naked. I didn’t have that, I didn’t have that right here. This was when it got really ugly and I was really naked and raw and I kind of had to get down to my relationship with God as my foundation and then beginning to recreate what I used to have. That was kind of roses and thorns. I got to recreate my life the way maybe it could have, should have been in America since I got to decide exactly who I was friends with, choose who my family here was. But there were some thorns because I felt in my soul I was replacing things that once were.

06:53

Dr. Martha: It was a really interesting experience getting through that and it just brought a whole new level in myself personally and professionally.

Harriet: That’s brilliant! I love how you explained the roses and thorns. I think in our lives we should always be coming from a place of choice. And I think it’s such a powerful thing. Coming from a place of choice is that something that you spread on your lifestyle brand?

7:18:

Dr. Martha : Oh, definitely – because we choose. No one wants to admit that – if we’re going to get really truthful on this podcast – no one wants to admit they have a choice. You have a choice about everything you do whether that adds to or deducts. So you have to stop and think about, that food that you are eating, does that add to your life or take away? That relationship that you are in, does that add to your life or take away? It’s all about choices. Sadly, our life is an accumulation of choices that add up to the end result. So yes, I definitely am big on making proper choices.

7:53

Harriet: I would love you to share with the listeners, with the people who are hearing you to let them know what your three greatest life lessons have been.

Martha: One, make the most of every moment with the people that you love. I think that started when I lost my mother at two and has continued to throughout my life. You know, honoring your body. I think that so many people forget you have one human body. You don’t get to get a new one and this is it and I never wanted to be someone whose body was no longer functioning with a soul that was alive.

08:31

Martha: I have this really amazing experience in a nursing home with a woman who was in a nursing home bed. And she said, I was 18 years old, she said, “Martha, make sure you take care of your body. ‘Coz right now my body is not alive and my soul is.”

Martha: And then, never forget to say I love you. Not isn’t just to other people but that’s mainly to yourself. One thing that’s missing in this world is what I call innate love. That’s the underlying thing behind what I do. That’s that inner love that we are born with that somehow gets stripped away. And if we can actually get back into that faith of loving who we are rather than expecting other people to love us, I think that the world would see a massive shift if we could tap into who we are and love ourselves in the way we were created rather than the way the world is trying to recreate us.

9:28

Harriet: Fantastic, so to recap for the listeners. Number 1, make the most of every moment. Number 2, honor your body. Number 3; telling yourself that you love you as well as others.

9:40

Harriet : When it comes to innate love – the listeners; how are they able to tap into this innate love? How can they be more innate in themselves right now in this moment?

Martha: The best way to tap into your innate love and the love that you have to yourself is to get back to loving yourself. And that seems really easy, but for most people it’s really hard. And so what I do is I wake up every morning, and I spend my – I used to do an hour of power lifting, only sometimes I get 20 minutes of power because I got to get on to the next thing. So you’re spending 10 minutes in something spiritual, then say, 10 minutes in something educational and 10 minutes in something physical.

Martha: For example I spend 10 minutes on my spiritual self. I love to read my Bible, I love to pray. I spend 10 minutes for my physical self, you know, doing burpies or sit-ups or going on a brisk walk with my dog. And then 10 minutes for my educational self. Just reading something to wake up my brain so that I’m fresh and alive.

10:40

Martha : And then I do what’s called aromatic dressing and speaking words of truth. So it is something you have to do naked. You kind of get naked in front of the mirror and you’ve got some essential oils and you use oils to empower yourself. You use oils for the way you want to feel, not the way you feel.

Martha: For example, this morning, I’ve got a lot on my plate – as every entrepreneur does. I used motivational blend, I used Douglas fir, frankincense and passion. One or two drops of each in a little dish of coco oil and I just start from the legs and begin to actually aromatically dress my whole body and speaking words of love and truth.

11:23

Martha : For example today I might say; today is an amazing day, Martha. You’re here to share your message with the world. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. When I rub my nervous system, I tell my nervous system that I couldn’t function without you. I just really get back to people connecting to who they are and loving themselves with all their lumps and bumps, you know, all the phases they wish weren’t there.

Martha: Loving yourself for who you are. Because, the thing is, we’ve all heard this saying; “Oh my kids don’t love me, my husband doesn’t love me.

Harriet: Mm-hmm.

Martha: But when we really get down to it; do you love you?

Martha: Because if you love yourself and set this love standards, this innate standard of love, people can easily love you. Now, all of a sudden, Dean knows how much to love me. I know how much I love myself and I’m not asking Dean to pour into me something that I’m not giving myself.

12:18

Harriet : It’s so important when you love yourself, it doesn’t matter if someone else is having a bad day. You don’t have to take it out on them because then you are already full. You are full person. You’re not waiting on Dean to feel like, “honey, fill me up”. You are a fill up human already. I love that.

Martha: It also becomes a difference, as – I just want to add – between emanating love and giving that love. When you’re full of love, you actually emanate that love. You’re not having to give from a space that might be depleting you. Because when you’re full, you almost overflow. It’s really important that people begin to see that who you are and loving you allows you to love God more and love other people more; your children, your family, your co-workers. But it starts with you. It’s a ripple effect outside of you. You have to get there yourself.

13:02

Harriet : That’s beautiful. Such a powerful message. Love is a beautiful thing. I love it.

13:09

Harriet : Martha I would love you to share something raw and authentic about yourself. I would love to know if you went back in time 20 years, what is one thing that you would tell your old self?

Martha: Wow.

Martha: Probably – other people’s opinions don’t matter. People are allowed to have their opinions and they are allowed to express that opinion. Just like I’m allowed to have my opinion and express it but, definitely going back 20 years, I’d say, other people’s opinions don’t matter. Because I think that being in the sensitive spirit, the healer that I am, the lover that I am, I got wrapped up sometimes in what other people thought about me.

Martha: They were allowed to think that, but whether or not I thought it too was my choice.

Harriet: Beautiful.

13:53

Harriet : Now, as you know, the Naked Health Warriors Podcast is all about true health to every individual. Because everybody, every single person’s body, is totally different in so many different ways.

Harriet: So, I’d love for you to share a little bit about real health to you – because it is different for every person. It’s great to hear from someone else because maybe someone else’s health regime, someone else’s opinion of real health, can help. So what is real health to you? What does it mean and why is it so important?

14:24

Martha : Well, I think getting back to who you are, that innate self-connecting to who you are – I think it plays with a few roles. It plays a little bit with our ancestor. It’s a lot about; what did your ancestors eat, and look at what you are eating today. I think that we need to look back at who we are genetically and begin to see that what we eat and who we are plays a very important role today.

Martha: That’s one thing that I think is really important. For me, start to listen to your body. A lot of people say; oh, every time I eat that, I get sick. Every time I eat that I get indigestion. The body has an amazing way of – I call it tough love, or maybe the body’s love language. Things like burping, gas, diarrhea, indigestion, headache, that’s your body’s love language. That’s your body’s way of saying, “Hey, Martha, hey Harriet, I didn’t really love when you did that. I think that that doesn’t actually serve me. Maybe you could do this instead.

15:33

Martha: I think, too often we don’t listen to the inner voice of our body. We think that our body is just something to be silenced, because we’ve been taught that. We’ve been taught that if you have a headache, take a pill and make the headache go away, but that love language is really important. That’s one of my big things about health. Find out who you are and what serves you.

Martha: You and I just talked about bone growth and it gave you a little bit of a headache. It can be either way. Do what serves you, not what everybody else is doing because we’re not just one person. Genetically, you’re an individual. You got to do what serves you.

Harriet: Wow, so much info!

16:07

Harriet: I absolutely love that you mentioned about genetics and ancestry and what did your people before you eat. It’s so true there’s so much interesting ingredients in our foods these days and some of us, we just don’t know any better. We haven’t researched, we haven’t looked, we haven’t asked the right questions, because it feels like the right thing to do. I love that. No one has ever mentioned that before and it’s an excellent, excellent time to bring up. The fact that we are all different. And you should be looking back to what your people eat.

Harriet: I’ve met some of my personal clients and some of them are really great on rice. Some aren’t. You need to look into your ancestry and your genetics. And I totally love your message about listening to your body. Absolutely brilliant powerful stuff.

17:02

Harriet : So, moving towards the end, let’s get this thing wrapped up. I’d love for you share more about your raw naked self because you’ve been sharing some excellent gold nuggets today.

Harriet : What is one really simple, healthy living golden nugget that you believe every human should live by, whether it’s chiropractic. What is one of your beliefs everyone should live by?

17:25

Martha : I have to be honest. I don’t practice chiropractic in New Zealand but I am definitely probably the biggest advocate globally for chiropractic. I think that if people begin to understand the importance of getting checked regularly by a chiropractor, because the nervous system is so important. When we look at what the nervous system does for our body – yes, chiropractic is the foundation for everyone, from birth ‘til death.

17:57

Harriet : And what would you say is the number one most amazing transformation that you’ve seen either personally or known of from one of your clients when it comes to using that healthy living golden nugget?

18:09

Martha: So funny; I had a woman come in to me for neck pain, didn’t mention she couldn’t hear out of her right ear. At all. For years. She came in the office the next day and she said, “I am really angry at you,” and I thought, “Oh, wow.”

Martha: She said, “I didn’t tell you about my right ear so I know that this is real”. But she had a chirping bird outside of her bedroom and she slept on her left side and she said, I can hear those stupid birds chirping. I think she did not have her hearing for about 15 years so having someone get her hearing back on her right side – it was quite funny because she was actually angry –

Harriet: [laughs]

Martha: -- more hysterical --

Harriet: that’s a great story of transformation!

19:10

Harriet : What is the best advice for your industry you have ever received?

Martha : It’s all about you and it’s not about you.

Harriet: Cryptic. I like it.

19:18

Harriet: Can you share with us a technological piece of equipment, app, book, training or whatever kind of tool that you and your body cannot live without?

Martha : Putting it down, I like to put – I’d read a book, or—

Harriet: Yeah? You’re a book fan?

19:39

Harriet : What’s your number one book that you’ve read in the last 3 months?

1Martha : A Glimpse Into My Life. It was my grandmother’s memoirs that she handwrote. I read it every year.

Harriet: That’s fantastic!

19:47

Harriet: What investment or resource would you recommend for people who want to improve their health right now and get back to their naked self?

Martha : I think a gratitude journal and the app, Seven. It’s the seven-minute work-out you can do first thing in the morning. That’s really awesome.

20:04

Harriet : Who is your hero? Public or private, whatever.

Martha : My grandmother. Helen Nessler? She just was everything I wanted to be and taught me so much about how to be an amazing human being.

20:17

Harriet: What do you believe the health industry is missing right now? What does the world need most?

Martha : They need the truth. That’s what I’m working on. I want to do, I guess, the grassroots movement called Human Being Empowered – just to get the truth out there and make it simple. Like I love to say; Keep it Simple Sunshine. The KISS method. Getting back to the basics. That’s where I want to take people.

20:51

Harriet : Who do you recommend, who do you know that I should be getting on this podcast?

20:58 Martha : Dr. Josh Axe. He’s a chiropractor by training. He’s an amazing individual and a wonderful human being. He’s awesome.

21:14

Harriet: I would love if there is any last piece of advice that you can offer to the listeners that you want to part with? [An] impression that you want to leave with them?

Martha : I’d say fall madly and deeply in love with yourself and allow yourself to live the life of your dreams.

21:44

Harriet : Listeners, you probably want to find a little bit more about her. You can head over to her website www.drmarthanessler.com where she has an amazing webinar on stress and how you can manage stress right now in the 21st century

22:13

Harriet: Thank you so much, Martha, for offering some true golden nuggets from someone who’s got so much experience in multiple different areas. I love your message and I love what you’re doing.
