Welcome to today's podcast episode. Today, we have Zac Deane from Raw Cave. Zac is awesome. I’m super excited to get chatting with him. He does many things – he does so many things. The most cool thing about Zac is that he recently bought a chime to the sound – and the frequency of – love which is fascinating. We’re going to hear about all of that a little bit later, I’m sure. He is a certified health coach, he is a YouTuber, and also an actor.

[00:01:02]

Harriet: Zac, I’d love for you to give a brief introduction of yourself – about your business and what it is that you’re really passionate about and focused on right now?

Zac: Cool. Thank you so much for having me; this is super exciting. I love technology; it's just incredible what we can do these days. There’s just no limit.

Zac: So, my vision is really to inspire all young people to own their inner greatness. That starts physically, emotionally, in a relationship, spiritually, and also financially. I do that through video, through coaching, through presenting, through building a team in a triad here in Sydney and online.

Harriet: Awesome!

Harriet: That’s pretty cool, that’s exciting. I love that you’re helping young people everywhere.

[00:02:03]

Harriet: What’s the most inspiring thing for you in your business right now, and who is it that you absolutely love to help?

Zac: I’m that weird dude that loves waking up every single day and just excited for life. I don’t like to go to bed, because – it’s like; I want to stay awake! I have to force myself to go to sleep sometimes!

[00:02:29]

Zac: I'm just excited with the people that I'm meeting and attracting into my life. I really believe you attract who you are, so this journey of just delving deep within my self is really exciting. The self-discovery and personal development and personal evolution, as I call it, and the people I’m meeting.

Zac: love working with, really, people who have a spark of energy – the creative energy. They want to give back and impact the world. People who have a vision or who are already doing this type of thing.

Zac: And anybody, like, with my story – we’re going to get into my story a bit – anybody who's wanting to lose weight, have better energy, better sleep, improve their muscle – all those physical things that we want. Those are the main few things that people come to me for.

Harriet: Awesome!

[00:03:26]

Harriet: The Naked Health Warriors podcast is always about showing and presenting to the listeners that your past doesn’t necessarily have to equal your future.

[00:03:41]

Harriet: I’d love for you to share a little bit about what influenced you when you're growing up, about your upbringing, and things positive and negative that have impacted your life?

[00:03:50]

Zac: It's been a wild journey.

Zac: I've been in the health and wellness journey my whole life. I've had a lot of ups and downs.

[00:04:12]

Zac: Growing up in primary school, I was chubby and I was picked on. I went to a Rudolf Steiner school, so super creative – we've been learning about reading and writing very well. It was more like arts and music – so a very creative upbringing. But I was a chubby kid and I had really low self-esteem.

Zac: I really didn't believe in myself. I couldn't talk to the person next to me. I’d get really nervous in class, asking questions. I would hide away from the reality by eating my sorrows and hiding that way and playing computer games. I was an absolute geek. Any nerds out there? Give it up—[laughs]. And I would just play computer games, like, sixteen hours a day, if I could get away with it.

[00:05:04]

Zac: I had a lot of family issues as well. I didn't see my dad until I was seven, so I had all these things going on. I put lot of pressure on myself.

Zac: When I was seventeen years old, I luckily had a mentor. Someone who really believed in me. He was like; hey, Zac. I see something in you, and I want to start working with you!

Zac: He was a family friend – he's like twenty years older than me. His name is Jamie, so I’ll give him some credit. He really helped me in fitness and nutrition, and confidence, and talking to girls. Getting out my comfort zone and things like that.

Zac: He taught me these things that I implemented in my life. And those were simple things that really worked. I knew in my mind that there were so many people out there struggling with their health and wellness that, with these little changes, they could really turn it around really quickly!

[00:06:07]

Zac: I then worked for a company called Vitamix – here in Australia, they’re called Raw Blend. I travelled the country with them making real food and smoothies and stuff for years. And then I studied nutrition at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and then started health coaching halfway through that course.

Zac: That was about two years ago, and I’ve been health coaching ever since.

[00:06:33]

Zac: And then I started my YouTube channel. I had a friend who had 70,000 subscribers on YouTube. We were brainstorming ideas for a movie, and I ended up making a green smoothie for us during the break.

Zac: I turned around from the fridge – as I grabbed all the green veggies and fruits out of the fridge – and he filmed it. And I was like; “what are you doing?” I kind of had these nerves, going; oh my God, I can’t film anything, this is crazy! And he goes; “no, no, come on, let’s do it.” I’m like; “Fine!

[00:07:07]

Zac: We started two and a bit years ago, so we’ve got over a hundred and thirty videos up on YouTube at Raw Cave, so you guys might want to check it out.

[00:07:30]

Harriet: Awesome! I love it!

Harriet: One thing that I want to reiterate back is that a lot of women believe that it’s only women who eat their feelings. I totally believe the opposite. I don’t believe there’s a sexist barrier, there is no; aw, guys don’t – because, yeah!

Harriet: Everyone sits down and feels a little less than ideal sometimes, and tries to eat food to make themselves feel better, which is what one of our programs is all about changing.

[00:08:22]

Harriet: What was the lowest point in your health journey? How did you truly get out of that?

Zac: Yeah, there’s definitely been a lot of ups and downs.

Zac: When I first started coaching a couple years ago, I found the biggest challenge was really just my own mindset.

[00:08:49]

Zac: I had to really learn to be the example for other people. I really had to take responsibility and step up as a man. I have to lead by example. The best way to influence other people, I believe, you can’t force anybody to do anything. You have to lead by example.

Zac: The struggle for me was around my peer group. Disassociating myself from some of my friends who would go out and party every weekend. It was a struggle because I love belong. I love my friends. And I felt like I wouldn’t be myself – I wouldn’t have identity with my friends.

Zac: My biggest struggle, biggest lesson – and the most rewarding – was separating myself from my old peer group. As a result of doing that, I found new friends who are empowering, who believe in me more, who are supportive, little healthier, and that’s changed every part of my health.

[00:10:49]

Harriet: I’d love for you to share with the listeners some of your greatest – let’s say three – three of your greatest healthy living life lessons that you've discovered over the years.

Zac: This concept of – I think I learned it when I went to Tony Robbins. He talked about – from NLP – it’s called modelling.

[00:10:58]

Zac: You look at people who are doing well in life or being successful in their life. You look at the recipe that they’ve created or they’re following, and you just do the similar thing. That’s why modelling has been something that’s really transformed my life. With my health, particularly around training and nutrition and eating. Also, mindset around relationships, around making money as well. There's a formula for all that stuff.

Zac: From that, when you study any of these successful people, they usually have a powerful morning routine. Whether it’d be twenty minutes or an hour or something that really sets their day of success. Morning routines, daily method of operation kind of thing has, been a game changer for me and my team.

[00:12:01]

Zac: Its simple stuff like hydrating in the morning, drinking a liter of water, exercising – I have a sauna at my house – having, like, Epsom salt baths, meditating – all that sort of stuff. Keeping it simple morning routines.

Zac: And then, [I have] an evening routine, which is just turning technology off or meditating, or just – just chilling out at night time. Winding down.

Zac: Second one – or third one, I guess you could say – would be finding an accountability buddy. A friend of yours or a coach. Someone is at the same level as you who you can push together and do – do life with. Maybe catch up once a week, or once every couple of weeks, or once a day over the phone.

Zac: Finding an accountability buddy has been a game changer for me as well.

Harriet: Nice!

[00:12:50]

Harriet: I’ll go over those again so the listeners can get those;

  • NLP – modelling – someone has a really great routine or habit and I want to know exactly how to do it
  • Having a morning routine – setting yourself up for success. The second half of that is having a wind-down routine
  • Find an accountability buddy

[00:14:31]

Harriet: If you could travel back in time – maybe ten, fifteen, twenty, years – and tell yourself something, anything; what would you tell yourself?

Zac: For me, personally, my journey has been around finding worth and building my belief in myself around that I am enough, that I am capable of anything that I put my mind to. I'm older enough – just that belief. Building belief in myself has been a massive part of my whole journey.

Zac: And deserving. Deserving of love, deserving of relationships, deserving of health, deserving of money – the sense of deserving, for some reason, has been a massive part of my life. The more that I build that belief, everything changes.

Harriet: Nice. Awesome, and I’m sure there’s a lot of our listeners who are listening, and they are in a place in their lives where they don’t feel like they’re enough, and don’t feel capable.

[00:15:36]

Harriet: How would you best advise a lot of our listeners [on] the very best way – or an easy way –to start beginning to build some books of belief and feeling worthy?

[00:15:47]

Zac: Everyone is different but, I found that I build a lot of belief as I started to spend time with other people who believed in themselves.

Zac: The fact that we become the average of the five people we spend the most time with or the saying, you know; who we spend time with is who we become, is something that really stood out for me.

Zac: I started spending time with other people who believed in themselves. I went to different seminars and events. Looked at my social group or looked on Facebook and I saw people who were doing things and who were believing in themselves or giving back to the world – you know, really taking ownership of their life.

[00:16:40]

Zac: Also, reading books! Reading books to find out the how-to, or people stories, is a massive thing as well.

Zac: Steve Jobs said, when we realize that most of the world was created by someone who was no smarter than us, that’s – it’s a massive game-changer. Everyone’s in the same boat – everybody struggles with these things most of the time.

[00:17:44]

Harriet: Something that I find is really important is the metaphor behind the Naked Health Warrior’s brand. I like helping people get fully back to basics. There’s no need to overcomplicate everything. It’s nice to keep it simple.

Harriet: So I want to talk to you about Real Health, and what it actually is to you. I’d love for you to share what real health is for you, and what it actually means for you.

Zac: The reason I really got into all this – if we were to backtrack in terms of my family, like lineage and heritage and stuff like that, there’s been a lot of mental health issues. There’s been a lot of suicide and depression and anxiety.

[00:18:29]

Zac: Really, true health for me started with just myself – improving myself. Feeling in control of my life, in control of my energy, in control of my outlook on life, in control of my actions. Having a sense of control and certainty around that.

Zac: It's cool to get a six-pack, it’s cool to have these before-and-after photos – they’re all kind of the ego.

[00:18:57]

Zac: That's only one part of it, because – I found I filled my cup up in terms of my health, I filled it up so full that it’s just overflowing with wellness and goodness and vitality. The best part of that is when you can actually help someone else fill their cup up, and help their cup overflow with vitality and goodness and wellness.

Zac: I believe true wellness is being able to contribute and being able to help other people.

[00:20:32]

Zac: Contribution is really the highest level of health.

[00:20:49]

Harriet: What advice would you give to listeners who are in a place of – they actually kind of need to go inside and fix themselves first. What's one of the ideal first step that they should take?

[00:20:59]

Zac: Just to realize that all is divine at all times. To build on success and build on belief like; we are not broken. We are responsible for everything in our lives, and we’re also responsible for everything not in our lives right now – but we’re not to blame for it.

Zac: Just to realize where we are is totally fine and if you want to start taking action for example; motivation is good – like, motivational videos on YouTube and stuff like that will get you off the couch and get you moving. But long term motivation or long term action comes from inspiration.

Zac: So in – inside; inspiration, alright? Not from outside.

[00:21:43]

Zac: It’s kind of a weird thing. Us, as humans, we’re usually motivated more away from pain than we are towards pleasure.

[00:22:27]

Zac: Think about where you want to be and then start focusing on where you want to be as your vision of what you want to create. So, maybe a vision board or images or a whiteboard – whatever it is to keep you focused each day.

Harriet: Nice! So, two things, listeners, from Zac:

Harriet: Number one; if you’re in a place where you’re wanting to move, you’re wanting to get off the couch, or whatever it is that you’re currently experiencing, the first thing is; you need to go within and ask exactly – what is going to happen if I don’t something about this? Where am I going to end up in six month?

Harriet: Also; look at the opposite side. Inspiration – how can you involve yourself inside whatever’s going on inside and bring it out.

[00:23:22]

Harriet: I’d love for you to share one Healthy Living Golden Nugget that you believe everyone should live by?

[00:23:40]

Zac: In society now, we live in a world that’s completely different to where it was a hundred years ago. We have a lot of environmental toxicity in our environment that we don’t really think about.

[00:24:23]

Zac: So I would say cleansing and fasting for today's society is the number one thing. I think in fifty years’ time, when we look back on today, we’ll go; what the hell were we thinking?

[00:25:01]

Zac: A great documentary for everybody out there is; “Eat, Fast, And Live Longer.” It talks about the people who live the longest in this planet are those who eat the least amount of food.

[00:25:53]

Harriet: Love it!

Harriet: Let’s wrap up with the QuickFire Questions – Clarity Round. Are you ready?

[00:26:06]

Harriet: What is the very best advice you have received in this industry?

Zac: It's to be honest. Have honest conversation with yourself and other people.

[00:26:17]

Harriet: What is one successful habit that you believe strongly contributes to your successful health?

Zac: Fasting and Cleansing.

[00:26:25]

Harriet: What is the most weird but super effective thing that you do in your health regime?

Zac: Sit in the sun – naked.

[00:26:36]

Harriet: What is one technological piece of equipment, device, audio, app, book, training or other tool that you can't live without?

Zac: The Smartphone.

[00:26:58]

Harriet: What is the number one investment that you've made in your life that’s contributed to your health?

Zac: Personal growth, personal development.

[00:27:07]

Harriet: Who is your hero?

Zac: Elon Musk.

[00:27:38]

Harriet: What do you believe is something that's going to start to really shift the current health paradigm that we're experiencing?

Zac: I think the raw honest conversations with people. Having raw, honest conversations around what's working, what's not.

[00:28:14]

Zac: So just being open to change that's probably the biggest thing.

[00:28:21]

Harriet: What is your favorite movie currently?

Zac: Can I give you two?

Harriet: Go for it.

Zac: It's a documentary called “E-Motion” – powerful. Thirty minutes. It’s free on YouTube.

Zac: Another one – one is on Netflix, it’s called; “All The Masks You Wear.”

[00:29:08]

Harriet: What is your favorite fruit [or] vegetable?

Zac: Spinach

[00:29:14]

Harriet: And your favorite drink?

Zac: On my YouTube channel, I made this thing called a Blues. It's a smoothie and a juice in one, I invented it. It's half smoothie, half juice.

[00:29:39]

Harriet: Who are three people who you think are absolutely imperative to get on this podcast?

[00:29:46]

Zac: Someone who's really impacted my life in the last couple of years would be my friend Peta Kelly. I really believe she's a powerhouse. Preston Smiles would be a great addition to this podcast, and my new friend Frank Jay Porcaro.

[00:31:08]

Harriet: Zac, Are there any words or is there anything that you would like to part with the audience today?

[00:31:16]

Zac: I think – just keep it simple. Keep it really, really simple. A confused mind will take no action.

Zac: Do it what you love and love what you do.

[00:31:39]

Harriet: Amazing! Thank you so much Zac, this has been Harriet Worth on the Naked Health Warriors podcast. I look forward to you joining us for more podcasts just like this very soon. Bye for now.
