As we continue this amazing series on the life of David, we have learned that David has been anointed as king, but he has yet to be crowned as king. But everything David touches seems to turn to gold. God is with David, but God has left Saul and this enrages Saul. Saul has some serious issues. The spirit of God has left Saul and now everything that David does he has success in. And therefore, Saul hates David and his whole goal in life is to destroy David. He wants David dead! And this is where we pick up our story this week. What would you do if you had a sworn mortal enemy? How would you treat him or her, or respond to them? Or, how many of you feel like the world is against you, or maybe your boss, or your spouse, or your best friend has turned on you? Well, this is certainly the case for David. And yet, David handles this opposition and this threat on his life in such an amazing godly way that we need to stop and examine it! In this week’s message, I want to do two simple things. I want to give you some general principles that just seem to be a part of life -these are both good and bad principles. These principles happen to all of us whether we like them or not. And then I want to give you a set of godly principles in which you and I can choose to live life by. And the operative word there is choose. All of us live by principles daily whether we do it intentionally or not. Saul had a certain set of principles he lived by and David had a certain set of principles he lived by and they were diametrically opposed to one another. So, what principles guide you? What system of beliefs or behaviors do you have in your daily life? In this message, we will see that David had every opportunity to get revenge, or get even with the man who was after him, but David chose not to. He said ‘no’ to the temptation. Join us this week as we learn how this incredible lesson applies to our lives as well.
