Benet Wilson is one of those veteran journalists who seems to know everyone in the industry. Over the last few decades, she’s spent her career in trade magazines, websites, newsletters, public relations and corporate communications at major airlines. But the theme that runs through her professional life has been aviation, which was partially inspired by her father’s career in the Air Force and a childhood spent moving all over the world. In 2016, she left her last full-time job to start her freelance writing, editing, and social media business, as the self-proclaimed Aviation Queen. -- Next Steps is a show about journalists figuring their career paths in and out of media. Each week, Poynter columnist Elite Truong interviews journalists who have had non-traditional career paths on their way to pursue different goals and dreams as their lives and the industry changes rapidly.
