This was written at band practice. Expendable Friend (Jacqui) is on drums, Geoff (orinoco) is on bass and largely came up with chords, Helen (helen) is on guitar and vocals and largely wrote the lyrics. The opening line is something I (Helen) wrote down at my sister' Christmas dinner. She had asked us to send folk stories and based the dinner around the countries they came from. We drank a fair amount of Cambridge Gin (which is my favourite gin, and not just because I live in Cambridge) and one of her friends interrupted another telling a story, then felt bad, so said, "Never trust the gin obsessed meta person from behind the fourth wall". I wrote it down for future song writing inspiration. Other than that, not really sure what's going on in my brain. There's a verse about each of us. Defo. It's where philosophy meets art - philosophart... You must never trust the gin obsessed meta person from behind the fourth wall They don't know the full situation and can't adequately assess it all So carry on with your story; continue living your life It's your life to live So don't look past the wallpaper; don't try to see the wall Look in the mirror an ask it who is best of all If you don't like the mirror, hit it with a hammer Seven years is plenty time to prove it wrong So break the mirror Break your fall Break the fucking mirror ball Disco can take care of itself Don't take it too much to heart if folks aren't listening, even when you're playing folk Let them stroke their beards; let them drink their ale; and let them judge you if they want They're the ones who have to live with their miserable lives It's their lives to live
