“Letting go means to come to the realization that some people are a part of your history, but not a part of your destiny.”

Steve Maraboli

A lot of my content lately has focused on the importance of relationships.

Now, when I say relationships, I’m not just talking about your spouse or significant other. I’m talking about your friends, co-workers, family members, business partners, children, and parents. It really covers all spectrums.

Regardless of the situations, all relationships will have an impact on you. Whether it’s positive or negative depends on how you’ve established that interaction.

When doing an audit of the people you tend to spend a lot of time with, you may find some that serve you and others that don’t.

The relationships that serve you will be easy to spot. When you’re with that person you feel comfortable, energized, validated, and confident. They’re the type of relationships that breed some of your best performances in whatever it is you’re doing.

The negative relationships though can be a bit harder to spot. That’s because they like to disguise themselves as positive ones. You may feel validated but on all the wrong things. You may feel comfortable but that could be at your own detriment.

When you dig past the surface and ask yourself the true purpose and value of a particular relationship, you might not always like the answer. Especially when it’s a relationship you’ve gown dependant on.

In this episode, I actually share a conversation about escaping bad relationships. Ben Harris runs the Goalink show and was generous enough to have me on. He, Charles Russ, Andrej Suttles & I sat down and really began to explore ways to identify bad relationships and how to escape them.
