Wine and Food

Anywhere I go, my attention is always drawn to food subjects and choices. Last weekend at the Chronicle Wine Competition at Ft. Mason, I was interested in which

foods were presented as being complimentary to certain wines. One booth caught my eye with this catchy phrase: “Pair Thee Well.” Kudos to Whole Foods for taking great literary license to come up with this way of offering ideas of which foods go best with wines.

Here are the samples that they were handing out. If you are entertaining and looking for ideas of what to serve as hors d’oeuvres with wine, this could be your best guide. Simply put out these four selections, and you have it covered. An antipasto skewer of salami, cheddar cheese and Kalamata olive will go with just about anything.

Parmigiano Reggiano bites on a rustic bakery cracker will accomplish the same task.

Roasted Tomato Bruschetta with basil and mozzarella on a slice of sourdough baguette is always popular. And who doesn’t love chocolate? Squares of red velvet organic chocolate by Alter Ego was a definite winner with wine.

So next time you want a quick and easy array of tasty treats to go with any wine selection, try these appetizers and make a happy party.
