When you’re at the very bottom, you’re forced to do 1 of 2 things: You either give up, give in, and turn to your vices, or you face your self and you choose to be better.

No matter where you assess your current level in life to be right this second, success is less about what you achieve, and more about who you become.

Today is a new chapter in your life and I hope you’re not re-reading the same, boring, and recycled paragraphs that are seemingly ubiquitous; it leads to boredom, being disconnected internally, and going through the motions day after day.

If that is your story right now, it’s time to pivot and shift.

Why do you think the greatest movie franchises have been so successful for years, even decades (Fast & Furious, Transformers, The God Father, Star Wars, X-Men, Hunger Games, just to name a few)? It’s because from start to finish they are great stories that are ACTION PACKED!

As spectators, we are on the edge of our seats and we just want more and more, don’t we? We create that demand and each time a sequel is released, everything is seemingly more epic! And through all the action, these stories elicit the absolute highest levels of emotion — pain and struggle, love and hate, victory and defeat, inequality and redemption. But through it all, they story line is magic and they are all ACTION PACKED from beginning to end.

If you had to direct your own biopic today — a movie about your own life, would you be excited to watch it? Would you share it with others as if it’s going to be a blockbuster hit? Think about that for a second. If you are responding in your head right now anywhere close to “Ummm” or “I don’t know, maybe,” how the heck do you expect others to be excited about you and what you bring to this world?

How about to your significant other? Your friends? Your co-workers and business partners?

You may think I’m veering off the path here, but I’m not. I am referencing book and movie analogies because today’s guest injected so much passion and drive into today’s podcast message.

With a wife and two kids, and having only $5.38 to his name, AJ Adams sat inside Taco Bell with the reality that he couldn’t even provide lunch for his family. He made the agonizing decision to sell the family car, just so he can pay for rent and buy some groceries to feed his family for the month. This was barely 5 years ago.

Today, he is a personal brand and social media coach, a highly sought after motivational speaker, and a Forbes Coaches Council Member.

AJ is here to share with us that your life is a story. His mission is to teach people not just to compete, but to DOMINATE and to become the greatest director of our own narrative.

Here are some key takeaways from AJ’s podcast interview:

  • Decide the story you want to tell, and reverse-engineer the process.
  • You either make moves, or make excuses.
  • When your values are clear, your decisions are easy.
  • Be ruthless when it comes to your high standard of ethics and sense of self-worth.
  • Break down your values into a simple acronym: HEART (Honesty, Empathy, Ambition, Relationship, Tenacity)
  • Relationship is the currency of business, it’s the currency of life.
