We are pleased to share our interview with Shendell Benard, a nicaraguan pitcher currently on LBPN’s Tren del Norte and Germán Pomares’ Cafeteros del Carazo roster.

Shendell is native to Pearl Lagoon on Nicaragua’s Caribbean coast and has been playing baseball since he was 8. Inspired by his Grandfather, with whom he used to watch Major League games as a child, he’s been professing an enormous passion to baseball ever since. This is his 7th year as pro and he’s played for different franchises in his country, Caribbean Coast, where he made his debut and Indios del Bóer amongst others.

Through this 35 minutes-long interview he lectures us on baseball and also does an overview of his LBNP’s season with Tren del Norte, the first ever on this newly created franchise from Estelí. He also goes through his training routine and explains the basics of the game to those less familiar with baseball, opening himself up with his calm but warm tone, from Central America to the whole world.

He studies International Relations and makes the most of his academic and professional breaks going back home fishing in Nicaragua’s keys with his cousins. On top of being able to hit 90 mph throwing a baseball, he’s also managed to catch a 100 pounds tarpet!

Shendell’s parlay: To have his own podcast and play abroad for at least one season.

We hope you like this pleasant chat with our guest. Audio is in Spanish but you can read the translated transcript in our website.
