Goal No. 10 of Bill Snyder’s 16 Goals for Success is Never Give Up. Last week in Lubbock, Texas, Snyder’s 2017 Kansas State football team put that principle on full display by rallying from 11 points down in the fourth quarter to force overtime and then win, 42-35, over Texas Tech.
Still trailing by eight with less than four minutes to play, Tech missed a 31-yard field goal and gave K-State the ball at its own 20 with 3:40 remaining. With Skylar Thompson at quarterback, K-State’s offense covered the 80 yards in five plays and then Thompson connected with Dalton Schoen on a must-make two-point conversion to tie the game.
The Powercat Pregame Podcast, featuring GoPowercat publisher Tim Fitzgerald, football analyst Marcus Watts and GPC's D. Scott Fritchen and Riley Gates, takes a look at Kansas State's 2:30 p.m. game Saturday versus West Virginia on Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. And, as always, the podcast is sponsored by Fridge Wholesale Liquor.
By scoring 18 unanswered points to close the game in Lubbock, K-State redirected its season from needing a pair of notable upsets to get to a bowl, to coming home Saturday to take on West Virginia with a chance to earn a bowl spot with two games to play in the season. Winning one of these final three games is plenty to ask. Two was a bit overwhelming. The Wildcats will play a trio of Top 25 teams to close the season with West Virginia, Oklahoma State and Iowa State standing in their path.
It all starts with West Virginia at home Saturday. The Wildcats are 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the Big 12, while the Mountaineers come to town at 6-3 and 4-2, and very much still alive in the race for one of the two spots in the Big 12 championship game.
