I had gone around the neighbourhood as usual handing out some of my devotionals. Many took them, saying, "Thank you." A few said a bold "No!" That's how it was when a young lady told me "No". I still had the copy out in my hand when I saw a well-dressed man wearing a nice pair of sunglasses walking as if on air towards me and taking the paper from me. In the brief moment, I saw his face and his eyes looking at me through the sunglasses. He had a wonderful smile on his face, and he looked like no one else on the street. His suit was very different, with shades of brown and gold not seen in this world. I could think of only one word, and I heard myself say happily, "Okay."
This incident has stayed with me as a supernatural moment, leaving my heart ringing and my soul singing! I am totally unable to explain the mysterious and glorious way that it came about. It became clear to me that the man was not just any man. He was Jesus dropping by my route with encouragement for me, showing that He was interested in what I was doing out there.
I can't explain how it was. Am I able to make such things up? Did it really happen? All I know is that I was touched by something supernatural and awesome that is hard to even fathom and believe.
It left me fully thankful and assured that I was doing the right thing out there with my way of sowing the seed of the gospel. The smile on the face of the stranger proved it!
It is so true that the Lord is near His own always, but not all of us get to see Him alive in powerful proof of His resurrection presence. We read in the gospel accounts how Jesus appeared to many after His resurrection: to Mary Magdalene, to those walking to Emmaus, and to Thomas and the other disciples. For the rest of us, Jesus promised, "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:40b NIV) and "Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:20b NIV)
Likewise, the apostle Paul advised us to treat our bosses as if they were Christ: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. (Colossians 3:23 NIV)
The truth is out. The next time we see a stranger, we might recognize Jesus and experience the reality of Him in our lives!
Prayer: Heavenly and supernatural Presence, it is humbling to find You so close and real, giving us a lasting assurance to continue our walk in this life in Your name. Thank You for removing all that hinders our walk with You. Thank You that we can live a life of faith in You. Thank You for Your holy Presence in our lives. In our Saviour's holy name, we pray. Amen!
