Overcoming Habit and addictions in our lives[podcast-subscribe]

It’s not easy to overcome temptation in your life. Whether that temptation is drugs, pornography, food, intimacy, etc. If you are struggling, it is important that you know that this is not something that we do alone.

All of life’s longings, whether you want to admit it or not, at it’s core begin with a deeper want for God in our lives. Without God there to fill our voids, then we will only aimlessly walk around, searching for anything and everything to fill those holes in our lives. Don’t try and walk through this alone. Along with God and others who can be accountable in our lives, you can find freedom from the pain and hurts in life.

Listen to today’s podcast as we chat for a few minutes with Darrell Bye, one of the Texas state directors for Celebrate Recovery, a program that focuses on dealing with life’s hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Celebrate Recovery “offers a person the opportunity to participate in a group fellowship where love and hope combine with God’s purpose to mend our lives.”

Ask yourself:
Are there things in my life that I do that hurt others?
Is there something I wish I could live without?
Is it time to crack my denial and admit I am not in control of my life?
Do I have a painful habit or hang-up from which I need to be freed?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above statements, then it might help you to find a Celebrate Recovery meeting in your area to see if it is for you.

Recovery International

Our guest, Darrell, is also the founder of Recovery International USA. “Recovery International was formed to establish and provide support for outreach ministries and ministry personnel engaged in Christ-centered recovery services and individual renewal leadership training.”

Two of their current programs include an outreach to individuals in Iran via satellite, as well as an Integrity in the Workplace program.

Recovery Iran

“Iran is a closed country that does not offer religious freedom to its people… Islamic law states that it is criminal for a Muslim to convert to Christianity and is punishable by death. There are countless numbers of Muslims that wake up each day without hope, peace, knowledge of redemption or the assurance of salvation. They are hungry for truth and there is an unprecedented openness to the Gospel message.

“Violence and crime are on the rise as Iran has the highest drug use per capita in the world. Out of desperation, people are turning to drugs, crime, prostitution, abuse and addiction to escape the pain of their seemingly hopeless situation.”

Integrity in the Workplace

Focused on protecting the employee and the employer, they “have developed a program for an employer to send his valued employee to ‘re-hab.’… Whether it’s coming to work under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or bringing their sexual addition, specifically pornography, to a workplace computer.” There are many benefits to both the employee and employer to use this program.
