Touch & Agree

Matthew 18:15 “Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’17 And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.18 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.19 “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
I cannot tell you how many times that I have been in a church and heard the words:
“If two of you on the earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven”
As soon as those words are spoken, the congregation is instructed to “touch their neighbor” and say “I agree.” Then the congregation actually hopes (believes) that God has done it.
So let me be the first to tell you that scripture is not only misinterpreted, but also that a misinterpretation means that the ceremony of physically touching another person is completely useless.
Usually this verse is used in order to “pick your pocket” of money and is used as a primer for the congregant to ’sow into the kingdom” or to give for some material thing. If the kingdom of God is within you, shouldn’t you sow to the Spirit of God within you?
So allow me to help you keep your money in this regard and get your mind in agreement with God’s heart.
So what does agree as touching mean?
First of all when you read the entire story in context, this passage deals with the scriptures that precede it. It is talking about dealing with those who sin against you and those who sin against the God. Those who sin against us are to be forgiven. When you do this you are ‘binding sin’ as commanded in heaven. When you bind sin on earth, you already know that they have sinned against God before they are able to sin against you. Therefore when you forgive or bind on the earth, you are also binding that sin that was against God. You are in agreement with God’s word and God’s word is in agreement with you. When you are in agreement with God and God is in agreement with you, then whatever you ask for when someone sins against God and you, it will be done for you. It will be done because you have joined with heaven, connected with the Godhead allowing convergence to take place. It is to be a continual practice, for those who are against sin.
The word “touch” means:
-to come so close to (a person or object) as to be or come into contact with it; to meet, join, connect with, converge with, be contiguous with, be against
We know we have received the Holy Spirit when we are able to forgive those who have sinned against God and us.
John 20:21Again Jesus said to them, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so also I am sending you.” 22When He had said this, He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you withhold forgiveness from anyone, it is withheld.”
There are so many worldly doctrines of demons concerning forgiveness. Many say you forgive for yourself. Many don’t understand why they say they forgive, but yet still want some type of revenge. Others say that they are angry and cannot forgive.
So why do we forgive? We forgive first of all because God first forgave us. Secondly we forgive, because we look at how much they have sinned against God, before they had the ability to sin against us. Thirdly we cannot forgive unless we have the Holy Spirit to enable us to do so. We are to forgive endlessly and in doing so, we are remembering how Christ first forgave us, and we are showing humanity what God looks like. We are to be more concerned about that other person being at peace with God, rather than being at war with Him. Why? Because un-forgiveness causes a rift between man and God. We are blessed if we are ‘peacemakers.” When God talks about peace, this is what He is referring to in this context.
To touch and agree with God is to be at peace with Him. Teaching doctrines that come from demons is not in agreement with God, therefore it is unholy as well.
As scripture states that we are to take two or three together and address the one that has sinned against God and ourselves. We are to take the Word of God, identify what is God’s Word and what is not. When we do this we are gathered in His name and He is there with us.
Isn’t it wonderful to know that first we must know the Word of God for ourselves and when we do, we can steer people towards God by showing love. And most importantly we know that when we are in agreement with His Word, He is there with us and the Kingdom of Godhead has converged with man.
