Hij startte als sergeant Kort Verband Vrijwilliger van de Militaire Administratie, wilde officier worden bij de Infanterie of de Cavalerie maar kwam terecht bij de Verbindingsdienst.
Zijn carrière bracht hem onder andere bij de Multinational Force and Observers in de Sinai-woestijn, bij de Multinationale Divisie ´Central´ in Mönchen-Gladbach èn in de G5-Plans Branch van ISAF in Afghanistan.
Na zijn diensttijd kwam hij toch nog terecht in het leveren van vlakbaanvuur, weliswaar niet bij infanterie of cavalerie, maar als manager van golfbaan de Voortwisch in Winterswijk.
