The desert Tamarisk is nothing like a cottonwood. The cottonwood gives the water back every night after taking it during the day. The tamarisk just drains the desert like a greedy troll. Sucking everything down and down. Its root a drill that keeps digging.
Whoever told liberals that they were supposed to be “sure”. Who ever told them that science “knows” the answer. Science has unsureness built into its method on purpose. The way past impasse is to recognize always the Taoist third option. The third option is flow. The third option is the shit sandwich that makes you realize there is no winner. There is only a complex world in which both viewpoints are fallible, wrong and coexisting.
Stewardship of the earth is built into human dna, but so is empire and degradation. We are both people inside. We are dissonant creatures. The sahara became sand 5000 years ago and we all still remember it. We also remember the age of regularity, the evidence of god, or the evidence of our own consciousness. The fossil record shows and proves regularity. The climate was once regular. The earth was once lush.
