Want to pick a basis f_i of L(D) so that ord_p f_i > ord_p f_0. If we assume |D| is base point free then dim L(D-p) dim L(D) -1 so can pick f_1,..., f_n basis of L(D-p) and extend to basis f_0,..,f_n of L(D). Then ord_p f_0 = - D(p) and ord_p f_i > - D(p)
