Im Rahmen ihres Zukunftskonzepts schreibt die Universität zu Köln jährlich Forschungspreise in drei Kategorien aus: den Max-Delbrück-Preis für Lebens- und Naturwissenschaften, den Leo-Spitzer-Preis für Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler der Philosophischen und der Humanwissenschaftlichen Fakultät sowie den Hans-Kelsen-Preis für Rechts-, Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaften. In allen drei Kategorien wird zudem ein entsprechender Preis an herausragende Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen und -wissenschaftler verliehen.
