Kevin Hughes is the Economic Development Director of the Suffolk Department of Economic Development in Virginia. He first joined the Suffolk team in
2005 as a Senior Business Development Manager. Kevin has managed more than 120 new and expanding business projects totaling more than $403 million in capital investment and over 3,250 new jobs for the City of Suffolk.
In August 2010, Kevin developed and led an economic development strategy to oppose the disestablishment of the United States Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM), which would result in a job loss of 2,400 people at the Suffolk, Virginia campus. Kevin’s efforts led to retaining 1,200 jobs and replaced the other lost 1,200 with the introduction of 1,500 jobs in the region beginning in September 2013.
Kevin is also responsibilities for supervising the Division of Tourism, the Suffolk Executive Airport and for serving as the Deputy Secretary Treasurer for the Suffolk Economic Development Authority.
The Suffolk Economic Development Authority (EDA) is a political subdivision of the City of Suffolk which is authorized by the Virginia General Assembly to initiate and develop a variety of new business opportunities throughout the City. The EDA’s role is to foster economic development and help with the expansion of existing businesses, and to assist new businesses to create new jobs and capital investment within the City.
