Episode 41
2/2020
We pulled into Ruskin Florida at another Boondockers Welcome location. On the way in we saw a you pick grove. So after we met our host and got set up we walked about one and a half miles to Dooley Groves. We went out to the Grove and picked some seedless tangerines and honey Bell oranges. We saw some of the biggest lemons I've ever seen in my life. We got back to the rig we cut up one of the oranges mixed with a dry blend mix and wrapped it up with some salmon and foil. And then cooked it on the grill wow was that delicious. The next day we wanted to find a park to walk in Florida. We googled and found a park in St Petersburg. This reminded us of a trip wade took about 5 years ago. At that time we found a tiki bar right on the bay. It is a part of the Magnuson Hotel. So we decided to revisit this bar. We sat and had a great Pina colada and chatted with Ed from N.H. That night we had a great visit with our host. The next day we visited tarpon springs and enjoyed the best Greek food we have ever had. At Mamas Greek Cuisine https://mamasgreekcuisine.net/
We then walked around and bought a sponge. Well that's what put this place on the map back in the early 1900s.
We had taken the rig with us and found Street parking for our 30ft rig towing or jeep. Our next stop was at another boondockers welcome location. We sent them a message explaining that we were in tarpon springs and wanted to enjoy dinner in tarpon springs and would arrive later than originally planned. We then drove there. We got set up and parked just before dark. We timed it perfectly. That night we had great conversation with our hosts. They have the cutest rig I had ever been in. The gutted it and designed it themselves. There was a 1950s table and chairs. A black and white linoleum floor. Gorgeous. Well enjoying drinks with them or host explain to me about turning off battery cutoff switch when using our inverter. Previously the inverter would kill the batteries and over load the inverter! He explained that with the inverter wired directly into the breaker box, the batteries would be charging and discharging at the same time which resulted in a voltage death loop. That night I turned off our battery switch and viola for the 1st time we had no issues using the microwave and coffee pot, even at the same time! Trish's phone died so off to Verizon for a replacement one. We then walked around town which was nice nice. We found a place called MC Wine Bar and they would be having live music that night. So we reached out to our hosts to join us there. We had a great time getting to know them. The next day we went to Bell Florida on the recommendation of our host to do an actual hike. We haven't done an actual hike since we left for this trip. We headed out to
O'Leno and River Rise preserve State Park. O'Leno State Park & River Rise
(386) 454-1853 https://maps.app.goo.gl/NrPLAsuAHsjnQoDd8 We chose the park cuz you could hike out to where a river goes underground and then resurfaces 3 MI away. We hiked out we watched it disappear which was basically just a pond. Approximately 900 million gallons of water goes underground every day. It was very interesting to learn about but we were very underwhelmed seeing it. However the park was really scenic with two nice trails so we hiked about six and a half miles. We had lunch and then we drove to Itchetucknee Springs state park. For another 3 miles of hiking. They also have canoe and kayak rentals there, a shuttle service, and scuba diving if you are certified in cave diving. The next day we did laundry. And drove off to our next boondockers welcome location. A young couple who were full-timing pulled in. They were from Michigan and apparently they do a lot of rving videos on Facebook. That night the four of us enjoyed nice conversation around the campfire. The next day I asked him if he had a offset screwdriver he asked what that was. I explained to him that are double sliding door in the bedroom needed to be screwed back in so I showed him he pulled out his tools and fix the form what a nice guy. The next day we headed north about 2 hours to crawfordville Florida which is about 20 minutes from the Florida state capitol of tallahassee.
