(Throwback Thursday)

Me:What is the single best retro console to collect if you're starting from scratch in 2021?

Taking into account the reliability of the hardware, cost of games, connecting to modern TVs, quality of software, etc…

Eric Plunk — 03/26/2021

Genesis is most affordable and there are plenty of games for it that won’t break the bank. There are HDMI cables out there for it as well.

ElPeeDee — 03/26/2021

I'm gonna vote WiiU. I know it's the least retro of the gens, but it's virtual console + access to the wii library make it tough to beat in my book. although I think the consoles themselves are pretty pricey these days, in guessing a lot of the games will rise soon

16bitwars-nomad — 03/26/2021

I’d say wiiu if you are going with a more modern retro and the genesis for classic...maybe the psp as well for handhelds. Most games for it are still reasonably priced

ChrisHL94 — Yesterday at 10:33 AM

I’ve been able to find a few Nintendo DS games that were reasonably priced, I haven’t looked in to a console though. I have found a couple 3DS’ that weren’t bad, one original and one of the new variety.

PS2. Huge library and backwards compatible with PS1 so you can start building both back.

Occasionally Average

@occaverage

So I know the classification of what is or isn't retro can be contentious, but I would say the PS2. Most games are still relatively inexpensive, and there's such a massive library of quality titles that you'll probably never run out of interesting ones.
