Twin Brothers, Sal and Frank Santolla have been self employed business partners in the automotive field since 1981. They started Santolla Auto Repair in Patterson, NJ at the age of 21 while still attending area colleges. Sal is a graduate of Montclair State University with a BS Degree in Industrial Technology. Frank successfully completed automotive courses through the Bergen Vocational Tech Schools of Teterboro, Hackensack and Paramus N.J. and is an honor graduate from Bergen Community College in Paramus, with an AAS Degree in Applied Sciences for Automotive Technology. In 1985 Sal and Frank moved their automotive business from Paterson to Rahway N.J. where they started Apple Tire and Auto Repair. In recent years they developed the site to include two additional businesses that they created, called Clean Dreams Car Wash and Wheel Estate Auto Sales. They ran, sold and leased both of them out. They named the redeveloped site the Avenue Auto Mall where they continue to operate their auto business. Originally from Bergen County, both brothers moved to Ocean County in the 1980’s. Having affection for the Jersey Shore and the automotive field, they decided to create an automotive radio call-in show called Riptide Rollers, featuring themselves as the Twin Cams, Intake and Exhaust. In the spring of 2015 Riptide Rollers started up at 91.9, WBNJ in Barnegat, N.J. The new show addresses a wide range of automotive topics and provides valued assistance to those who are experiencing mechanical trouble with their car or truck. Sal and Frank have remained close to one another over the years both professionally and privately. Their bond in business, sense of humor, and identical looks has made them a hit with their customers who often became humorously confused over which twin they were speaking to. Through the years, they have had to address important and tough questions from their customers regarding twin issues like, “When one twin gets hurt, does the other one feel it ?”; “Do you have the same dreams?”; “Did you ever switch girlfriends?” and the classic from a confused customer, “Are you, you, or are you your brother?” A former, summertime employer at a shore restaurant called Sal and Frank ‘Slank’. Their mother would get mad if they did not answer her when she called out to either one of them by the wrong name and would say in exacerbation, “You know who you are when I’m calling you!” Their grandmother, who couldn’t tell them apart, simply called them Sonny. You can simply call them the Twin Cams, Intake and Exhaust!
