Fame comes at a price. Scammers want your money and don’t care if it also costs you your self confidence.

Those trying to get noticed are vulnerable and the path to success is different for everyone. It often depends upon getting to the right person at the right time. To increase your odds, you’ve got to put yourself out there and hustle. You’ll fail a lot, but that’s how the game is played.

This makes you a perfect mark -- you must depend upon the kindness of strangers and put yourself in unfamiliar situations. But be careful, your fame may come with the word “sucker” attached to your bio.

Don’t think it can happen to you? Elton John lost $29 million to his financial advisors, plus $10 million more in legal fees. Robert Di Niro lost $88 million in an art scam. Billy Joel got taken for $90 million by his former manager and brother-in-law. A Ponzi scheme took $15 million from John Elway. Kevin Bacon and his wife lost millions, courtesy of Bernie Madoff.

Be happy you’re six degrees away from that action.
