Humanity has only been alive and kicking for a very brief period in the history of the Earth and a tiny fraction of the history of the Universe. Given this, is it possible that advanced civilisations existed on Earth prior to our arrival, but that they were so long ago that all evidence of their existence has disappeared? Will this fate befall humanity in the future? And regardless of either scenario, is the rise of intelligent life on Earth a way for the Universe to understand itself? Steve and Ben examine the concept of past advanced civilisations and how it may give a glimpse in to our own existence and fate.
