JT McCormick shouldn't have succeeded. He was born the mixed-race son of a drug-dealing pimp father and a orphaned, single mother on welfare. He was raised in the slums of Dayton, Ohio, suffered incredible abuse and racism, and had multiple stints in the juvenile justice system. He barely graduated high school and has no college degree. But succeed he did. Starting by scrubbing toilets, JT hustled and worked his way into better opportunities, eventually hitting it big in the banking and mortgage industry.

And then the mortgage industry fell apart. He lost his job, and literally all of his money. In his words he was “negative broke.”

That setback sent JT on a journey of discovery that changed everything. He looked in the mirror and realized that the person he had become was in his words “a monster.” He was reminded of his father, the one person he never wanted to be like.

Flash forward 10+ years and JT is the CEO of Scribe Media, a company that in 2018 was acknowledged by Entrepreneur Magazine as having the best culture in America.

In this raw discussion JT:

  • Opens up about the details of his abuse as a child
  • Shares lessons that he learned from both his parents that he still uses today
  • Calls BS on the term Work-Life Balance
  • Points out that most of us have no idea what real poverty is
  • Explains why he feel blessed to have been born in the USA
  • Tells us that three letters (i.e. CEO) do not make you a leader
  • Explains his philosophy of Servant Leadership
  • And inspires all of us to put in the work to be the best version of us
