GFV15 – The Walking Dead – S5E15&16 – Try & Conquer Review

A lot happened in the last two episodes of The Walking Dead Season 5. To make it easier on those of you that read these recaps I’ve gone ahead and broke them down by episode.

Try

The episode started off with a video of Nicholas being interviewed by Deanna about the events that led to Aiden and Noah’s deaths. This was cut with scenes of Glenn telling the truth to Rick. Later in the episode, Glenn confronted Nicholas and told him that he was never going to leave the community again and that if he did he would die and that Noah and Aiden’s deaths are on his shoulders. I’m guessing Nicholas didn’t like hearing this too much because he pulled a gun on him during this talk.

Sasha was still having her issues and left her post in the clock tower to go hunt walkers. Michonne and Rosita who followed her fearing that Sasha had gone crazy.

Carl continued to follow Enid and they had a brief adolescent will they or won’t they moment while hiding from a horde of walkers.

Carol got more information out of Sam about Pete’s abuse of Jessie and relayed this to Rick. Rick went to see Deanna to see how she planned to deal with the situation and was told that there was no plan. Rick decided to take things into his own hand and went to Jessie in order to convince her to leave Pete. Once she was convinced Pete showed up and started a fight with Rick. The fight ended with Rick almost killing Pete, pulling a gun on the community, and telling everyone how weak they have been. Michonne knocked him out to stop him from doing anything stupid.

Conquer

The ninety-minute season finally of The Walking finally brought an end to the Morgan storyline that began at the end of last season. Thank you for speedy plot pacing writers it’s very appreciated. Let’s break this episode down by what was happening with each character as there was a lot going on for everyone.

Rick:

He started this episode off in an empty house being watched over by Michonne. Glenn, Abraham, and Carol came by to tell them that Deanna planned a meeting for that night to discuss what to do with Rick. They came up with a strategy about the meeting and Rick sent them away so he could sleep more.

After Rick woke up he headed home and got cleaned up for the meeting. When it was time for the meeting he told Michonne about keeping her out of the loop when they stole the guns from the armory. They shared words and reaffirmed they are dedicated to each other.

On his way to the meeting, Rick noticed that the gate was open and saw signs that walkers might have gotten into the community. He ran around and found about six walkers and killed them. How the meeting went I’ll save for later.

Glenn

Glenn waited to hear from Maggie to get confirmation that the meeting is about banishing Rick. Once he hears this information he noticed Nicholas scaling the walls and followed him. Nicholas shot Glenn in the shoulder out in the wild and tried to have walkers kill him. Glenn did not die and almost killed Nicholas as revenge. All this happened while the meeting about Rick was going on back at the community.

Gabriel

Gabriel left the community unarmed and tried to commit suicide by letting a walker take him. He couldn’t bring himself to do this so he headed back. Once back he was asked to close the gate and in a daze left it open for the walkers that Rick would have to eventually kill later in the episode. Later on, Sasha went to see Gabriel for some counseling and he told her that she is bad and that her whole group is bad and everything is their fault. Sasha almost shot him but Maggie showed up in just enough time to stop her.

Daryl

Daryl was out scouting for new community members with Aaron. In their search for a man in a red poncho, they came across a food factory. Aaron talked Daryl in giving up their search and taking back a truck full of can goods. It turned out that the trucks were a trap. They were filled with walkers and all the trucked opened when one was open. They found themselves over taken by a horde and had to hide in a van. Luckily Morgan who we saw at the beginning of the episode talking with a “bad” person comes by and helps to save them. Aaron then invited Morgan to come back with them to the community.

End of Episode

Rick finally showed up to the meeting after everyone had said his or her piece about him. He was carrying a dead walker on his back and explained where it came from and gave a speech about what they need to do survive. It was this time that Pete showed up with Michonne’s sword and accidentally killed Reg. When this happened Deanna told Rick to kill Pete and he did. As Rick did this Daryl, Aaron, and Morgan showed up to witness it. Finally, the episode ended with Michonne putting her sword back on as a way to say that she doesn’t feel safe in the community anymore. The last scene is the trap at the food factory being reset by the men Morgan fought at the beginning of the episode and a car spray painted with the words, “Wolves Not Far.”
