As is the case with many people with ADHD, Charley Burt is successful, smart, funny, and compassionate. But she doesn’t just have ADHD. Companion conditions typically co-exist with ADHD, and in Charley’s case, her special genetic make-up includes Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Fibromyalgia, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as well. In our conversation we also touch on how familial suicide has impacted both of us and fueled our passion to share with others the struggles involved in all forms of mental illness. You’ll surely enjoy Charley’s warmth and good nature as you listen to her share stories of self-discovery and self-disclosure mindful that these are both still a work in progress. She’s untangling what’s what. Considering that all of her, as she calls them, acronyms, have overlapping symptoms, determining what physical ailment is contributing to which mental issue is a puzzle she’s determined to solve. In fact, through the encouragement of a geneticist, she is in the process of setting up genetic mutation testing through 23andme! Personally, I can’t wait to find out what more information she’ll find out and share. She’s promised to come back and give us an update but don’t wait until then. For more about her journey go to embracingadultadhd.wordpress.com and subscribe. She writes almost every day something about her ADHD and its effects on her life and relationships. You can reach her on Twitter @CharleyBurt1 or visit her blog.
