Listen to a podcast about embracing the end-of-life? Our natural reaction is to quickly flip to another page. But not so fast.
In our culture we deny what we don’t understand, and nowhere is this more obvious than in how we deal with death and dying. We try very hard to pretend that it doesn’t exist. When our pretensions break down we do everything we can to delay death even if it means it living in a hospital bed with seven tubes entering and leaving our bodies, Then when it happens we’re all shocked and ripped apart.
One’s life changes when one begins to realize the death is a part of life– that in fact death didn’t exist until life invented it!
Let me introduce you to Patt Lind-Kyle, a longtime friend of mine, who has boldly gone where a few have been willing to go, And has written an intensely needed book, Embracing the End of Life: A Journey into Dying and Awakening. In this conversation you will learn much about Pat’s incredible journey, her long periods of silence and meditation, in some of her remarkable discoveries about how we can learn from and have our lives profoundly enriched through following this entertaining and easy to read roadmap.
Have a listen, you won’t be disappointed.
About Patt Lind-Kyle:
Author and thought leader, Patt Lind-Kyle has a broad range of interests. She has taught in the academic world, created a small business, practiced as a management consultant and executive coach and has had her own private counseling practice. Patt’s research and interest in the mind/brain field led her to develop a learning style assessment company to help children and parents understand how they learn. She has been involved in the teaching and application of personality styles to individuals and organizations for the past 25 years.
Patt was trained as a hospice volunteer and served patients in the Hospice Hospital of Portland, OR and Hospice of the Foothills in CA. Patt confronted the deep fear of her own death in a long meditation retreat. This experience launched a study of the dying process in preparation for her own death (although she is in no way on the verge of leaving us), and by developing personal exploratory practices about death, Patt has defined the step by step process of dying including legal, caregiving and awakening processes. Breakthroughs in the scientific understanding of how the brain works have shown us that our brains are constantly rewiring themselves in response to events in our lives.
This handbook applies this new science in practical ways, by giving us a training program to re-pattern our behavior and thereby change the ways our brain is wired. It interrupts our suffering, sharpens our mental abilities and corrects our cognitive imbalances. As we learn these mental skills, the neural patterns of our brains begin to change and we literally reprogram the neural networks through which information and energy flows.
If you’ve heard about neuroplasticity, epigenetics, psychoneuroimmunology and other scientific advances, but didn’t know how you could apply these breakthroughs to improve your life, you will find Heal Your Mind, Rewire Your Brain a treasure trove of resources.
It provides a clear, step-by-step program that shows you how to correct the imbalances of the stressed-out brain, and install a peaceful state of mind. Buy it here.
When Sleeping Beauty Wakes Up: A Woman’s Tale of Healing the Immune System and Awakening the Feminine
In a life-threatening battle with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome the author discovered emotional renewal and spiritual awakening in a transforming encounter with the essential feminine. Here she shows others how to make the journey from self-doubt to self-esteem, from illness to health, and from weakness to strength. Waking sleeping beauty becomes the metaphor for the process of recovering the legacy of feminine strength that has been largely lost in our culture. From the Publisher Hers is not only a literal story of her battle with a woman’s disease, but also a metaphorical telling about the condition of many American women today whose efforts toward healing are really attempts to reclaim their power in a subtly but insidiously male-dominated culture.
