Manage episode 217077172 series 2360634
Show Summary: Normally we talk to some libertarians who came from the right, in this episode we shake things up and talk to a libertarian who came from the left! This week we welcome Kimberly Schjang! Kimberly is a self-described newborn libertarian who has ditched the philosophies of socialism, and democracy. Kimberly has found that freedom, and liberty is the most important thing of all! Kimberly is new liberty!
About the Guest:
Kim was born in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1983. Born into a family with one older brother and a mother who took charge of raising both children by working 3 jobs and doing whatever it took to make sure her children had a better life than she did growing up in Las Vegas, Nevada as a native herself in 1959. Her family struggled often financially and lived in low-income neighborhoods around the Las Vegas area for more than the first two decades of her life. Kim eventually attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas in August of 2001. After finishing a degree in Liberal Arts, English, she immediately returned to UNLV to pursue a degree in Film. During her second degree, in order to pay for textbooks and school supplies, she took on a job as an office assistant for the UNLV Department of Hotel Administration as well as a Help Desk technician for the same University.
After graduating in 2009, Kim met with Information Technology recruiting companies and got her start in the Information Technology field in 2010 as an IT Technician for Shuffle Master, a proprietary gaming company. In 2013, she began working for the University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine as as an Information Technology Specialist and Audio-Visual Technician where she still works to this day.
Kim, having a deep thirst for knowledge, once again returned to UNLV to pursue a degree in Economics with the School of Business in 2016. With her close ties to UNLV and having lived in District 7 for several years, she has seen the changes and development and deterioration of a lot of the neighborhoods, businesses, transportation systems, and standards of living for several of her fellow citizens whether it be with those she works with, speaks with on a daily basis or has grown up with. Coming from very humble means and having lived in low-income neighborhoods and raised by a mother who felt that it was important to teach her children to reach higher levels of success than she was able to, Kim feels it is very important to apply the very same mindset to each citizen in Nevada to help them achieve higher levels of living for themselves and their families."
