Fonterra dairy farmers are seeing white gold, as the co-operative's Farmgate milk price hits its highest level in years. Next season's opening milk price is forecast at seven dollars per kilogram of milk solids, just shy of its record high of $8.-40 in the 2013-14 season. Chairman John Wilson told Chris Lynch a perfect economic storm has caused their prices to surge. "Key drivers there are global dairy markets remain balanced, good strong pricing, particularly around milk powder, fats and butter, and of course we've had the New Zealand dollar come back slightly as well."
