Find part two of Mia's conversation with Julia here.

Until she was 40, every aspect of Julia Haart’s life, was tightly, tightly controlled. What she ate, what she thought, what she wore, and what she was allowed to do in a day. Julia was part of an ultra-Orthodox community in New York – a type of extreme form of religion called Haredi Judaism.
But, after having 4 kids, Julia decided to escape.

Before we jump in, just a quick note - and some context.

It’s important to bear in mind that these are Julia’s personal experiences. They do not speak for the many and varied experiences of all Jewish women - Orthodox, Ultra-Orthodox, or otherwise.

And on those terms - ‘Orthodox’ and ‘Ultra-Orthodox’ - while we use them interchangeably, it’s important to note that actually, Julia’s experience is within an Ultra-Orthodox community of Monsey, New York. This is just one niche sect in a spectrum of many, each with varying customs.

This is part one of her story…
